The Opportunity

NLS is seeking a driven, self-motivated Sales Representative to join our team as an independent contractor. This is a commission-only engagement designed for entrepreneurial sales professionals who operate their own businesses, control their schedules, and thrive on building client relationships in the B2B technology services space.

You will identify, pursue, and close new business opportunities for NLS’s managed IT services portfolio across the greater Madison and Dane County markets. This is not a salaried position — compensation is 100% commission-based, paid per closed deal under the terms of a written independent contractor agreement.

Scope of Engagement

  • Prospect, qualify, and close new B2B clients for NLS’s managed IT, co-managed IT, cybersecurity, Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, VoIP, and infrastructure services
  • Develop and execute your own sales strategy, lead generation methods, and outreach cadence
  • Conduct discovery calls, needs assessments, and solution presentations with prospective clients
  • Collaborate with NLS’s technical team to scope proposals and deliver accurate service quotes
  • Maintain your own CRM, pipeline tracking, and sales reporting
  • Represent NLS at networking events, trade shows, and local business associations at your discretion
  • Meet or exceed mutually agreed-upon sales performance benchmarks defined in your contract

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • Established sales professional with a proven track record in B2B technology, IT services, or managed services sales
  • Operates an existing sales consulting business or is actively establishing one (own office/workspace, equipment, marketing materials, and business identity)
  • Strong understanding of the IT services landscape: managed IT, cloud platforms, cybersecurity, VoIP, and network infrastructure
  • Self-directed and entrepreneurial — you set your own schedule, determine your own methods, and manage your own pipeline
  • Excellent consultative selling, communication, and relationship-building skills
  • Existing network or demonstrated ability to build a book of business in the Madison/Dane County market
  • Comfortable working under performance-based, commission-only compensation

Compensation Structure

This is a strictly commission-based engagement. Compensation is paid for a closed deal under the terms of a written independent contractor agreement. There is no base salary, hourly wage, draw, or guaranteed minimum payment. Commission rates, payment terms, and performance benchmarks will be defined in the contract.

As an independent contractor, you bear your own business expenses, including but not limited to: transportation, telecommunications, office space, equipment, marketing materials, insurance, and taxes.

Independent Contractor Classification

IMPORTANT NOTICE: This position is structured as an independent contractor engagement — not an employment relationship. No Limit Systems is committed to full compliance with Federal law (IRS guidelines, FLSA) and Wisconsin state law (Wis. Stat. § 102.07(8) nine-part test, DWD worker classification requirements).

To qualify, you must meet and maintain all nine requirements of Wisconsin’s independent contractor classification test. Candidates who do not meet these criteria cannot be engaged under this arrangement.

Wisconsin Nine-Part Independent Contractor Requirements

Under Wis. Stat. § 102.07(8), you must satisfy all the following:

 

  1. Maintain a Separate Business. You operate your own business with your own office, workspace, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  2. Federal EIN or Self-Employment Tax Filing. You hold a Federal Employer Identification Number (FEIN) from the IRS or have filed business/self-employment tax returns based on your work in the prior year.
  3. Operate Under Specific Contracts. You work under a written contract for specific services and specific compensation, and you control the means and methods of performing the work.
  4. Incur Main Expenses. You bear the primary expenses related to performing the contracted services (transportation, phone, equipment, marketing, office, etc.).
  5. Responsible for Satisfactory Completion. You are responsible for satisfactory completion of contracted work and liable for failure to complete it.
  6. Commission / Per-Job / Competitive Bid Compensation. You are compensated on a commission, per-job, or competitive bid basis — not hourly, salaried, or on any other basis.
  7. Profit or Loss Potential. You may realize a profit or suffer a loss under your contracts — your income is not guaranteed.
  8. Recurring Business Liabilities. You have continuing or recurring business liabilities or obligations (e.g., office lease, insurance, professional fees, subscriptions) that exist regardless of whether you are actively performing work for NLS.
  9. Business Success Depends on Receipts vs. Expenditures. The success or failure of your business depends on the relationship between your business income and your business expenses. You face a realistic prospect of periods with expenditures but no receipts.

 

What This Engagement Is Not

To ensure transparency and proper classification, please note the following:

  • This is not an employment relationship. You will not be treated as an employee of NLS for any purpose (tax, benefits, workers’ compensation, unemployment insurance, or otherwise).
  • NLS will not withhold income taxes, Social Security, or Medicare from your compensation. You are solely responsible for all tax obligations.
  • You will not receive employee benefits, including health insurance, retirement plans, paid time off, or workers’ compensation coverage from NLS.
  • NLS does not control your work hours, work location, methods, sequence of duties, or tools used. You determine how and when to perform your services.
  • You are free to provide similar services to other clients and businesses simultaneously.
  • Engagement is governed by a written Independent Contractor Agreement executed by both parties prior to commencement.
